When conducting a coaching session, it is important to think about where the coaching session will take place. For example, if online or in a noisy open-plan area, does this encourage the individual to share things which may be potentially sensitive or confidential? Getting the meeting off to a good start is important, so think of how you will engage in some initial rapport to put the person at ease and set the scene for a productive discussion. Remember the three central qualities to building effective rapport, as mentioned earlier:

- Acceptance
- Genuineness
