3 types of CV

There are many different ways to present your details, however generally there are three main types of CV:

Traditional

Your career history is displayed in chronological order.

Best use = if you are looking for a similar role and/or industry to the one you held previously.  It shows how you have progressed through your career.

Functional

The predominant information here is your skills and experience.

Best use = when changing career direction or where your more recent work history is not as directly related to the job as earlier experience.  This document highlights your transferrable skills easily.

Interim

Collates details of more recent assignments and can be a useful summary for recruiters looking for someone with a particular set of skills for a short assignment.

Best use = if working in interim roles and you want to continue to do so.

No one size fits all.  The trick is being able to pick the one which will highlight your skills and experience in the best possible way.  This may change in time and in fact, you may have several versions depending on what you are looking for.
